Review of Acceptance Action Therapy (AAT)

semTherapy has simple goals …. to enable us to better control our feelings and to change the way we think and behave, and so improve our lives. Acceptance Action Therapy (AAT), developed by Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) specialist Graham W Price, has proved to be a remarkably effective tool to achieve these goals.

It is a pleasure for me to write a review of this powerful therapy. I’ve trained many hundreds of psychologists and Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapists and am the Director of MSc Studies in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy at the University of Cumbria.

What I look for in a therapy, is that it’s effective in helping patients change their lives in real ways. I’m very results-orientated. I like to see patients get better. AAT achieves this. Furthermore, the techniques generate a significant further enrichment in their lives.

It’s been my pleasure to watch and support Graham as he’s developed his ideas and practice during the last decade. I’ve seen him begin to share his ideas through his personal development trainings called ‘The Power to Choose’, now available via seminars and DVDs and attended by tens of thousands around the world.

Graham doesn’t just use his ideas in therapy and teach them to others through his development trainings. He and his clients live by them in their daily lives.

As an experienced CBT practitioner, I’ve come to use Graham’s tools in my own work and have been hugely impressed by their simplicity and effectiveness. They can be used on their own or in combination with CBT or any other therapy. I’m also using the tools in my own life and, like so many others who’ve learned Graham’s approaches, I’m finding them powerful and life-changing.

In my opinion, anyone interested in the workings of the human mind and how those workings can be enhanced …. and anyone interested in living a better life or in helping others to resolve emotional or behavioural problems …. will benefit enormously from attending one of Graham’s development trainings (his seminars are very low cost … see www.abicord.com).

Acceptance action ideas, whether learned through Graham’s development training, or Acceptance Action Therapy, enormously enhance lives. Therapists and their clients will enjoy major benefits from participating in Graham’s webinars, or by engaging in AAT.

Graham has developed AAT by supplementing some of the most modern, scientifically supported, principles of therapy and psychology. His work echoes themes to be found in CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness approaches, all therapies having extensive scientific evidence to support their effectiveness. But Graham has built on these ideas and offers his own theory and a deceptively simple, elegant and effective way to apply that theory in practice. In my view his theory and practice are a major contribution to modern psychology and psychological therapy.

I like to see people living richer, happier more fulfilling lives. I see AAT patients becoming free of the psychological symptoms that imprison them. And I see them learning and applying acceptance action ideas to achieve better, more meaningful lives. Graham’s seminar-based training together with practicing this therapy, will enable you and your patients to do the same.
