Cognitive Behavioural Techniques

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is now the prime therapy recommended by independent accreditation bodies such as the UK’s National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE). From common emotional issues, such as anxiety and depression, to more challenging behavioural issues such as eating disorders and OCD, cognitive behavioural techniques are now recognised as the leading, and most effective, approach for resolution. CBT is also widely used in the effective management of incurable problems such as bipolar disorder, MS or scizophrenia.

Traditional therapies such as psychoanalytic therapy, known nowadays as psychodynamic counselling, have been  superceeded by CBT. Psychodynamic techniques are increasingly viewed as less effective as well as lengthy and therefore expensive. As a result short-term versions have been developed that can still be helpful.

‘Alternative’ approaches such as hypnotherapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) have yet to receive any independant accreditation as stand-alone therapies, but can still be a useful adjunct to CBT for some issues, such as smoking cessation for hypnotherapy or phobia treatments for NLP.

Increasingly popular, more effective and broadly applicable adjuncts to CBT are modern acceptance-based approaches. Most highly qualified and experienced CBT therapists are now using acceptance-based techniques in combination with CBT.  Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness have been growing in popularity. The more recently developed Acceptance-Action Therapy (AAT) is becoming recognised as by far the most powerful. Acceptance-Action techniques are also highly effective as a personal-development training. You can hear an introduction at one of Graham Price’s webinars. Click here for details and to register.

Abicord’s therapists are highly qualified and experienced CBT therapists, also trained and experienced in AAT, hypnotherapy and NLP.

Approaches that combine CBT, AAT, hypnotherapy and NLP are proving highly effective for issues such as smoking cessation or weight loss. Abicord’s combination approach has proved 98% successful for smoking cessation, compared to 50% to 60% for hypnotherapy alone, and 100% successful to date for weight loss. As a result Abicord’s treaments are now fully guaranteed (one year money-back guarantee for achieving the goal and sustaining it).
